Here is a brief roundup from the last 24 hours (or so).
…Yesterday, Jay Brooks broke the big news of the day: “I learned today that Gambrinus has sent letters to their distributors announcing that as of March 1, 2011 they’ll be discontinuing the Pete’s brand, citing ‘rapidly declining sales volumes.'” It’s amazing that a brand that can grow to the size of Pete’s can be mishandled in such a way that it eventually suffers this fate.
…Not exactly beer release-related but Metropolitan Brewing wrote about what a lot of us are thinking this week: snow!
…From The Bruery, “Today we’re releasing our newest Provisions Series beer, Cuádruple! It’s a Belgian-style quadruple brewed with dark agave nectar.”
…There’s more discussion of a craft beer bubble.
…Heretic Brewing has posted up its public notice for a liquor license application.
…From a Red Brick newsletter, “Helluva Bock will hit your local stores this week. So try the spring seasonal and let us hope that the warm weather follows. Later this month the Brick Mason Series will hit the shelves! This series will consist of 4 new brews the first one being 16th Anniversary.”
…CityPaper has a few more details on The Grainery project in Philadelphia.
…The Hartford Courant has some news on Thomas Hooker Brewery‘s expansion.
…New Planet Off the Grid Pale Ale is now available in Colorado.
…Over in the UK, MillerCoors made a significant purchase of Sharp’s Brewery for £20m. In comparing this to the U.S., that would be like MillerCoors buying one of the smaller regional breweries.
The mishandling of Pete’s really isn’t that shocking. Stupid business people are everywhere.
