A California-centric batch of new label approvals…
Drake’s Expedition Red Ale: Previously available in 12 oz. bottles, the beer will now be packaged in 22 oz. bottles as the brewery’s spring seasonal.
Karl Strauss Black Ball: Coming soon to Coastal Reserve Series. Label says, “When checkered blackball flags dot the California coastline, experienced surfers migrate to advanced breaks where strangers to the sport dare not. Blackball is Belgian-inspired with a robust West Coast hop profile. Belgian-style yeast, coriander and Curacao oranges lend a fruity and spicy character for a bolder than average taste. A blend of New Zealand and Cascade hops add a vibrant floral aroma and clean citrus hop bitterness that lingers through its crisp, dry finish.”
New English Brewer’s Special Brown Ale: Along with this one, San Diego-based New English Brewing has also received approval for Why Not? Wheat Beer and Explorer ESB to appear in 22 oz. bottles. Peculiar because these three styles are among the slowest growing (or in the case of ESB, among the only declining) beer styles in the U.S. according to IRI data published in the last month. A visit to the website shows that they also have an IPA.
Knee Deep Tanilla Vanilla Porter: Label says, “This Tahitian Vanilla Bean Porter is made with Grade A Tahitian vanilla beans to compliment this robust style porter. You will taste chocolate, coffee and vanilla. Tanilla is an exceptional ale that will stimulate your taste buds.”
