And now for a long overdue edition of beer notes…


…Speaking of trademarks, in a recent blog post about its new Double Barrel Double IPA, Crown Valley Brewing is claiming trademark rights on a term registered by Firestone Walker 15 years ago. In addition, FW filed rights to DBA late last year.

Nevertheless, here’s the description for the upcoming debut: “Our Double Barrelâ„¢ Double India Pale Ale starts with a rich malt base to which we add hops, hops and more hops. This skillful blend of malt sweetness and aggressive hoppiness will rule your senses! After the addition of Columbus, simcoe, centennial and citra hops at various points of the brewing process, we reach the final IBU count of 93.”

…Indy Star reports that Sun King Brewing grew at a rate of 781% last year. That’s faster than Ninkasi Brewing grew in its second year. Sun King is projecting to brew 12,000 barrels in 2011 and possibly hit 20,000 in 2012.

…On the topic of Dark Lord Day, The Full Pint notes that 6,000 tickets were sold, according to local police department. There is some additional info there for those who are attending the event next month.

…Within the past hour, New Glarus Brewing announced on Facebook, “Two Women and IIPA are shippping out Friday! Watch for it to arrive in stores early next week!”

…From Midnight Sun Brewing‘s Facebook page, “MSBC beer headed PDX-bound. We are about to (re)strike up bidness in OR after several months ouT: Sockeye, Kodiak, Panty Peeler, Fallen Angel, OB7, Arctic Rhino…and MoRe. Check out web site for beer detaiLs.”

Fiddlehead Brewing in Vermont now has a home at 6305 Shelburne Road, in Shelburne, Vermont. Per its Facebook page, the brewery is early in its “in-planning” stage.

Olde Hickory Brewery is releasing another batch of Death by Hops soon.

…From Yazoo Brewing‘s blog, “Bottled fourth week of March. Citra and Columbus and Nugget for bittering; Citra and Columbus at 30 min; Columbus and Magnum for aroma. Heading for middle TN and central MS.”

Shipyard Brewing will release Summer Ale on March 31st.
