(Chico, CA) – A quick update on a pair of Sierra Nevada Brewing beers…
As mentioned on Friday, the brewery will be releasing a “Best of Beer Camp” mixed 12-pack in May. Here are the final two beers to be approved: Double IPA (once known as Ghidorah) and Weizenbock (using Kellerweis yeast). The other two will be Juniper Black Ale and California Common.
This keeps getting better. I just have to wonder what the price point for these 12 packs will be.
I’m a little confused about the numbers they use. #8 and #16 match their website descriptions http://sierrabeercamp.com/#/camp-beers but #29 is not the Ghidora (which is actually #31), it’s the Brewer’s Blackbird Black IPA. And #37 is not a Weizenbock, it’s actually Westnatte Lupulus which appears to be a Belgian style IPA. I don’t see the Weizenbock on that list. Any ideas?
Yeah, not sure. Maybe they are corrected on the actual bottles?
No, the bottle says 37. Here is a post I did and the photo to go with it. http://www.dailybeerreview.com/2011/05/best-of-beer-camp-37-weizenbock.html
in PA the Sierra Nevada BeerCamp cost about $38 for 24/12 oz bottles. You can get it it Moore beverage.
Big Red Liquors in Terre Haute, In. Has the 12pk warm price at $19.99, that is the cheapest I’ve seen here in Indiana.
Just got the beer camp 12 pack and it was kinda expensive but for what you get you have to remember what you pay forabout $22. I bought a 6 pack some kinda of arrogant bastard beer and it was like $16 some odd bucks. Getting to the double ipa camp beer: just like a double ipa would be very extreamly hoppy but drinkable. I had some really over the top stuff from rouge brewery in newport or. last year and this stuff i could hardly drink i almost muscled the whole growler down but could not. They have really good ipa beers just not what ever that one was? Im not much in to a real hoppy beer like this but i like to try this kind of new stuff. I just got some union jack the other day from firestone walker brewery and it was tasty nice piney taste not over the top. This double ipa is defintely drinkable but you better not like that cheap beer that i won’t drink, or you won’t like this stuff. Cheers
Ok the california common : Like i did not say on the other review i have been to many brewery’s Firestone walker paso robles, Redhook Woodinville,Wa, Breakenridge and wykoop Denver,Co. Rouge Newport,Or. just to name a few. The Ca. Common is basically not much to brag about. It kinda tastes almost flat with a little pilsner taste at the end but really not much on this beer for a micro brewery conisuer like myself.
Ok the Weizenbock beer is really nice tasting. It has that German beer taste to it and full of flavor. This one here would be almost up there with the microbrews i drink. For the alcohol content this one would be one to get. I just bought a beer from anchor steam that was a wheat beer at 4.5 abv and for over $10 bucks i don’t think so. It was bascially no taste like those cheap beers i would not buy it again. This weizenbock is good and i would buy it if i seen it in my local stores…
Ok just tried the juniper black ale. This stuff is really smooth and has that black tea taste. This is a bear i am not really familiar with but i would give it a 8.0 B . It says the content abv is 8.5 and i would not belive it unless they said it. So i tried all 4 beers : double ipa , weizenbock, Ca. common and juniper black ale. The Ca. common came in dead last for it is completely almost tasteless with a hint of pilsner after about 3 seconds after you drink it.. The juniper black ale and the weizenbock are pretty close. The Juniper black is really smooth and tastes great for a micro beer drinker as myself. The weizenbock as i said before has that nice german taste and is really good. The double ipa is good but over the top but still palatable. My top pick goes to the weizenbock. For taste and drinkability. I have been to so many micro berweries that i could not even begin to name them all so thats my pick the weizenbock. I give it a b+ i hope sierra nevada is keeping tabs on this cause i am a real beer connoisseur of micro beers.
Thanks, Bob. Unfortunately, I haven’t had a chance to go get the 12-pack. Hopefully I can before they run out.
One vote against the Double IPa–way too medicinally bitter. Strangest aftertaste on anything I’ve drank since my first and last shot of Escorial liquer many years ago.
