(Munster, IN) – Three Floyds gets downright presidential with a state of the brewery address, the head brewer’s thoughts on Dark Lord Day and a glimpse at the new Zombie Dust…
[4/20 Update: Finally confirmed that Zombie Dust 6-packs should eventually happen but is not a high priority.]
[3/17 Update: Attached below is the completed Evil Power Imperial Pilsner label by Phineas X. Jones. Thanks to Nate for the tip.]
Three Floyds’ Dark Lord Day tickets will go on sale this Saturday. Because of the changes to this year’s event and the buzz around the brewery this time of year, Three Floyds is stepping up to address concerns with Dark Lord Day and the brewery, in general.
Here is an excerpt from yesterday’s ‘state of the brewery’ letter:
The company has seen some substantial expansion, as well as new brands and some pretty fun events. In 2010 we produced 15,005.2 barrels of beer (1 barrel equaling 31 gallons) over 2009’s 11,030.9 barrels. Not bad growth considering that in 2006 we produced 5,300 barrels. Just last week we fired up our new whirlpool tank that is an efficiency dream come true for our little brewery. We also have two brand spanking new 120 barrel fermenters en route, in addition to the six tanks we purchased last year.
Indiana-based beer blog, Hoosier Beer Geek, released its interview with Head Brewer, Barnaby Struve, yesterday as well. He dishes on Dark Lord Day:
It’s funny – you’re damned if you do and you’re damned if you don’t. People want to come, but then they complain that there are lines. We’re like, ‘We’re going to try to manage the crowd better by making it a ticket only event so that also we know A) how many people are going to come and with that knowledge we can have the right amount of food for everyone, we can manage lines and crowds better, and B) it’ll be safer – it’ll be just a better event.
It’s so hard – we’re trying really hard to do the best thing we can to organize this thing. In order to have it go from year to year we have to limit the size. Munster is going to put up with only a certain amount of drunken revelry every year. There were somewhere around 10 to 12 thousand people here last year. We can’t have 20,000 this year and 30,000 the next year. We’re just a little brewery.
The Post-Tribune and Chicago Tribune each chipped in with their own stories this week.
The brewery also posted the band list.
Meanwhile, news rumors have surfaced within the past 24 hours that a pale ale previously only available on draft will be hitting 6-packs shortly. Zombie Dust is currently sporting a 4.4 average on Beer Advocate. It was previously known as Cenotaph.
On another note, there still isn’t any new information on Evilpower Power Imperial Pilsner since last month’s report other than the completed artwork shown here. Want to see a larger version? Click here.
From Phineas X’s blog, here is the final artwork for Evil Power Imperial Pilsner:

Geez, man. You’re keeping track of this brewery better than I am! Or am I ‘teaching’ you all my secrets? 😉
If you’re gonna steal, steal from the best, amirite?
If BeerPulse ever needs a Chicago correspondent, well, you know who to talk to.
