Cambridge Brewing Co. moves toward bottles

(Cambridge, MA) – Cambridge Brewing Co. put up a survey last week about offering beer in bottles.

The survey has since closed but here is what Will Meyers said on Beer Advocate about CBC’s plans:

Thanks for all the enthusiasm, everybody. Seriously, I mean that. We are psyched about this project and psyched that we have enjoyed so much support from BAers and the craft beer community.

More info is forthcoming, but I’ll address a few questions that have come up.

Firstly, our beer will not be contract brewed. Nothing, I feel, would have less integrity than if we just gave our recipes to another brewery and said “Here, make these.” Not only that, but most of you who know me know that I’m a bit of a control freak 😉

We will be brewing, maturing, and packaging our beer ourselves, at a local brewery who will afford us the luxury of renting their system and producing our beers under our own schedule and parameters.

Beers will be in either a 22oz. or 750ml. format. We’re still deciding.

We won’t be brewing any of our house beers – Cambridge Amber, Tall Tale Pale Ale, Charles River Porter, Regatta Golden – for packaging. We feel strongly that there are lots of our friends out there who are already making terrific Pales, Ambers, etc. Why wade into the sea of pale ales with another one? Have a Sierra Nevada!

We will be brewing many of the beers for which we’ve become well-known and which are a bit different from the norm: Tripel Threat, Red God, Weekapaug Gruit, Heather Ale, Sgt. Pepper, Great Pumpkin Ale, etc.

Eventually, we plan on releasing barrel-aged beers and wild beers in 100% bottle conditioned, corked-and-caged 750’s.

We’re planning on a summertime release for the first beers. We’ll be Massachusetts-only for the first year, I’m afraid, as we try this thingy out. Later expansion will be slow, local, and organic in nature.
