A bunch of news to wrap up the week…
Update: Big news for Surly (Minnesota) and Indiana breweries today.
Update II: Another cartoon from the guy who did the Tomme Arthur ones.
Bonus I: This one is a must-read and too good to bury at the bottom of this post. A newspaper exposed a brewing company (Electric City Brewing) that may or may not be a shell company. Reminds me of the flick, Boiler Room.
BrewDog: The brewery will launch beerleaks.org on Monday. I actually searched for beerleaks.com but I was a couple weeks late on that domain (bummer!). The eerie video above sets the stage for Monday.
Port Brewing / The Lost Abbey: Per the brewery blog, there is a new beer debuting at this weekend’s 5th anniversary party called Ad Lib: “Special Limited Release Blend made with Rye Barrel Serpent’s Stout, Bourbon Midnight Expression and Bourbon Judgment Day. Only 50 five gallon kegs of this are going into distribution, so this may be your one and only chance to try a legendary Lost Abbey one-off blends!” Also of note, the brewery just turned a grain silo into a giant barrel.
Revolution Brewing: “The current plan is to can four year round beers: Anti-Hero IPA, Bottom Up Wit, Eugene Porter, Riot Pilsner. We’ll also fill kegs and bomber bottles of some big beers.”
Meanwhile, Illinois may be the most interesting state filled with liquor law battles right now. Revolution blogged about it this week and you can check out the Illinois Brewers Guild for more details. Update: I’ve been told that the IBG info is a little old so here’s another write-up on the situation.
Two Brothers Brewing: Per Two Brothers’ festival site, “This year at the Hop Juice Festival you will have the opportunity to try a Two Brothers Brewing Company festival exclusive beer: Hop Juice Black. This slightly more aggressive dark version of our classic Hop Juice Double IPA will be available in extremely limited amounts. June 18th will be your only opportunity to purchase 22oz silkscreened bottles and taste it on draft throughout the day.”
Flossmoor Station Brewing: A bunch of new beer updates including Impromptu Pale Ale
Heavy Seas Beer: Per the latest newsletter, “Plank I will make it’s debut at Max’s Taphouse in Baltimore, MD on Tues May 17th at 5pm. Bottle, draft and cask will be offered. Plank I will be available in MD, DC, VA and PA in 22oz bottles and very limited draft.”
Odell Brewing: Woodcut No. 05 just came off of the bottling line
Ithaca Beer Co.: Posted yesterday, “Ithaca Beer is excited to announce the release of Rough Draft – a draft only beer available starting today in the Tasting Room and also available in very limited accounts in NY State. Rough Draft is a soul-satisfying, beat-the-heat wheat ale. As the name implies this is an avenue for Ithaca Beer to explore potential new beers that may become brands.”
Ska Brewing: Congrats to Westword’s Jonathan Shikes for having a beer named after him. It is #18 in the Local Series, Big Shikes Orange Blossom Imperial Pilsner
Upslope Brewing: Speaking of Shikes, he wrote up a big update on Upslope including their upcoming new canned beer, Craft Lager.
Ohana Brewing: Filed for an application as a microbrewery
Westbrook Brewing: An update on their new IPA, Belgian Pale Ale and Citra Rye Pale Ale
If you go to the Electric City Brewing Company’s “Photo Gallery” page (http://www.ecbrewers.com/#!gallery). The third photo in the top row (right to left… the man and woman with beers) is from Cambridge Brewing Company in Cambridge, MA. You can see CBC’s distinctive beer list, and even the CBC’s logo (right above the man’s head).
According to the guy that’s running the live webcast of Lost Abbey/Port’s 5th Anniversary party, there’s a keg of Cable Car Kriek that might get tapped at the party.

Yeah they also cropped a chunk of Swamphead Brewery’s (Florida) logo & put it on their site. I let the people in that photo know that their image was being used in association with this thing. Not cool.
