New beer labels: Cigar City, Widmer, RedHook

el chupa cobras 12 oz

New batch of beer labels is in…

Update: Per CCB’s Geiger Powell on Black Whole…”Specifics aren’t established yet. Its intent is to be released in loose 12oz bottles mostly in Alabama, where the band and our head brewer Wayne Wambles hail from.” Also, I’ve been corrected that the Hunahpu’s label below is a Virgin Oak barrel version and not regular Hunahpu’s. That now makes four barrel versions to be released…

Cigar City Black Whole: Label copy…

Black Whole is a tribute to El Chupa Cobras, a mathy indie band from Montgomery, Alabama. This effort came about from our realization that craft beer and indie music have something in common…they both share about the same amount of their respectful markets and challenge the consumer. Wayne Wambles, out head brewer, and Kenny Johnson, the front man for El Chupa Cobras, played an indie bands together many years ago and this tribute is for all indie music fans and craft beer lovers.

Black Whole is a multi-dimensional ale that takes many twists and turns similar to our daily lives. It has a big chocolate expression with moderate caramel notes, complex toasted to biscuit notes and hints of clove and black licorice. Don your chocolate mask and discover the meaning of life as you sip this complex, dark beer.

Cigar City Hunahpu’s Virgin Oak Imperial Stout: new label new beer, too

Widmer Bourbon Barrel Aged Brrrbon: Was released last year in bottles and on draft. I’m intrigued by the moniker, “the Alchemy Project,” as seen on this keg collar. Would make a nice name for a series of barrel-aged releases…

Redhook Saturnaleia: Double Red Ale that will join the Backyard Series, available only in the Portsmouth brewery’s local market

Other new labels…(not sure if all of these are “new”)

Branche de Bruxelles
Four in Hand Winter Brew
Hudepohl Oktoberfest
Frankenmuth Oktoberfest
