Part II of today’s beer notes…
Beer Advocate: The world’s largest beer website is back up thankfully after a long night of work from site admins. Reddit member, vacax, took a screenshot of a hacking last night while it was live. The site was down for nearly 12 hours as admins worked to patch up vulnerabilities. The hacker has not yet revealed the vulnerability that allowed him/her to hack into the Alström Brothers account according to a post by the Brothers. In late 2008, the world’s second largest beer website, RateBeer, had to deal with a hacking of its own.
Cigar City Brewing: Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout aged in Flor de Cana rum barrels has been bottled. Details are to come. On Friday (7/29), Black Whole will be released at the brewery. 12 oz. bottles will be sold for $7. The 144 cases produced will only be available at the brewery and in Alabama. More info here and here.
Clown Shoes Beer: The label for Muffin Top was just revealed this morning but don’t expect to see any controversy around this one. According to the brewery, the beer and label were planned before Labelgate.
Dogfish Head / Portsmouth Brewery: From Wednesday, “Sam reported to the brewhouse at the Porstmouth Brewery this morning for the latest in our string of recent collaborative brews.Today, Sam and Tod Mott are brewing up ‘Fru-it Gru-it.’ What, you say, is a gruit? Before hops began their millennium of trendiness in the 11th century, many different types of herbs and spices were used to balance beers sweetness. This class of medieval beers is known as gruit.”
Brooklyn Brewery: CEO, Steve Hindy, reveals that the brewery is considering doing a draft-only Brooklyn-only beer. Not a bad idea, Steve.
Evil Twin Brewing: Drops a few hints on some future holiday releases…”Since I’m not a fan of the common dark, spicy and often over sweet x-mas beer, I’m planning to release 3 different uncommon christmas beers for the 2011 edition of these over-hyped holidays: ‘Before, During and After Christmas Beer‘ – a 8% dry and crisp double IPA (brewed at Fanø, released all year), ‘Christmas Eve at a New York City Hotel Room‘ – a 10% classic imperial stout (brewed at De Molen – new recipe this year), and Soft Dookie (aka Soft DK) Special Holiday Edition…”
Bold City Brewery: Per the latest newsletter, Bold City is releasing Archie’s Rhino Rye Pale Ale on August 1st.
Bonus I: New Hampshire Business Review looks at the New Hampshire beer scene.
Bonus II: Jon Chesto reports, “The first brewers to receive assistance under [Boston Beer’s expanded microloan] program were Roc Brewing Co. of Rochester, N.Y., and California’s MateVeza.”
Bonus III: Per the Boston Herald, “There’s a rumor floating around that Todd English is going to convert Kingfish Hall, his seafood restaurant at Faneuil Hall Marketplace [in Boston], into a Belgian-style beer bar. […] He just opened a sudsy pub, The English Tap & Beer Gardens, in Boca Raton on Friday. The Todd English P.U.B. in Las Vegas, meanwhile, offers about 50 different beers.”
I love the Muffin Top label.
BA has had so many security holes for years it’s laughable. It still does but it’s funny no one has taken advantage of them since now.
I’m offended by what the name Muffin implies!!!
looks like todd and candace hahahaaha
WWCD What would Candace DO? Tell US!! You never had a problem before! We wait for the approval of the Brothers overlord!!!!
BA is still down from here.
It’s up, Mac. I think you need to refresh the page or close the browser & re-open it.
