A closer look at hop growing in New York (video)

Hop growing is creeping up again in New York after being relatively dormant for the past several decades. Breweries all over the country are phoning and emailing in to local hop growers on a daily basis thanks to the localvore movement and lots of “local” propaganda in the craft beer industry.

According to the video, up-front investment per acre of hops can be in the range of $10k to $12k.

Just today, Lagunitas Brewing Owner, Tony Magee, tweeted that VP of research and development at Select Botanicals (a hop breeder), Jason Perrault, is the most important man in the U.S. craft beer business. Check out the interview with him at Imbibe.
