Asheville breweries: “No unfair tax breaks, incentives for New Belgium”
As New Belgium narrows down its search for an East Coast location, now down to six, local breweries are chiming in on the threat of competition that the mega regional brewery could bring. The maker of Fat Tire, at 661k barrels of beer produced in 2010, is approximately 37 times the size of the largest brewery in Asheville, Highland Brewing…
But the Asheville Brewers Alliance, which represents the 10 Buncombe County breweries, has now made its position known. New Belgium is perfectly welcome here, but only if it comes without a big tax break or incentives not given to the local breweries, the alliance says. That wouldn’t be fair and would make it more difficult for the locals to stay in business, Alliance President Tim Schaller, owner of Wedge Brewing, said.

Kudos to the alliance..Big breweries fishing for tax breaks undermines the craft brewing industry.
