New Glarus Brewing sales up 30% so far in 2011

New Glarus reports being at 30% sales growth over 2010. 92k barrels x 1.3 = on pace for 120k barrels. 100% of it sold in Wisconsin. Wow.

On a side note, right before tweeting this, I learned that New Glarus deleted its @newglarusbeer Twitter account. Apparently, they didn’t have the resources to keep up with it? I’d suggest to breweries that they crosspost messages from Facebook (which can be done automatically for free) rather than delete an account. When New Glarus eventually does have the resources, they will regret deleting that account and having re-building to re-build that community.

Then again, some breweries are getting spooked by the Feds because of advertising regulations around alcohol and lack of knowledge of Twitter followers’ ages. Underage followers? Boston Beer Co. has opted not to start a Twitter account because of this. So maybe it is a smart move by New Glarus. Why a government agency would care about brewery marketing on Twitter at a time like this is beyond me but I cease to be amazed by the futility of the government so who knows…
