Oktoberfest revellers feeling cheated on short pours

oktoberfest jipped

You may be familiar with the Honest Pint Project here in the U.S.A.. Well, they have something similar in Germany…

The Vereins Gegen Betrügerisches Einschenken – League against Fraudulent Pouring – (VGBE) visited 12 beer tents at the parade ground on the outskirts of the Bavarian city last week sampling 100 servings of beer in the traditional glass tankards known as Mass. The society, which was founded more than a century ago to ensure the protection of drinkers’ rights, said that few were properly served and that standards worsened as the day wore on.

  1. “Jipped” is not a word. You’re looking for “gypped”, but be careful – it’s considered offensive by some because of it’s racial roots.

  2. Saw the article earlier this morning. I wonder how short we’re talking. Some don’t seem to understand that in a 1L mug the 1L line is at the bottom of the lip about 1.5″ down from the top of the glass. Foam is also close to 70% beer so left to settle the glass may be to the 1L line even if it looks to be a couple inches under when first poured. Anything over the line (like we’re use to getting) is just a bonus and really, free beer.
