Crooked Stave Surette to be released this Wednesday
Some Crooked Stave news from Chad Yakobson…
This Wednesday, October 26th at 6 PM we’ll be having a taping and bottle release party for Surette our fourth bottled release. The taping and bottle release party will once again be held at Funkwerks taproom in Fort Collins, CO.
Surette is our wood-aged farmhouse, a throwback to the provision beers of Wallonia brewed along the French/Belgian border. Our version of this farmhouse ale or Saison’s as they are known in Belgium was brewed with Malted Barley, Wheat, Oats, Rye and Spelt. We then aged the beer for a few months in our large oak foeder taking on a wild vinous character from the secondary fermentation by Brettanomyces and Lactobacillus now resident in the oak.
Farmhouse brewed beers with considerable age, often more similar to Lambic/Gueuze, were known in some regions as Surette instead of Saison. Our version of Surette can be cellared for years to come, developing even greater complexity in the bottle and evolving with age.
