Samuel Adams Update: Noble Pils goes year-round, new Alpine Spring, Mighty Oak wins

UPDATE: Somehow missed an important bit about Noble Pils going year-round. Post updated to reflect this…

(Boston, MA) – More news on what’s happening over the next several months with Samuel Adams

If you didn’t see last week’s Boston Beer update, head right this way.

This evening, I received confirmation from a source close to the company on three things:

1) Noble Pils is going year-round in 6-packs.

2) Samuel Adams Alpine Spring Lager will replace Noble Pils as the spring seasonal. Sierra Nevada is also introducing a new Q1 beer as reported earlier.

3) Mighty Oak Ale beat out Maple Pecan Porter in the 2011 Beer Lovers’ Choice competition. As a result, Mighty Oak Ale will be included in the first variety pack of 2012.

On another note, Boston Beer has released an imperial version of its Harvest Pumpkin Ale called Double Pumpkin Ale, available only on draft (1/6 barrel and 1/2 barrel kegs). The beer tips the scales at 8% ABV.

Meanwhile, Boston Beer is doing something interesting on Facebook. The company is asking fans what they think about the six beers in the Harvest Variety Pack. It looks like drinkers dig Bonfire Rauchbier more than the Boston Lager and the Irish Red. Will we see it return one year from now?

  1. Post update follow up:

Thanks, Adam. Now my surly, knee-jerk reaction seems foolish. 🙂
So, do we know when Noble Pils will become available again?

  2. Well, I find it unbelievable that Oaked Ale beat Maple Pecan Porter. I had a whole bottle of each and the better beer lost. But what do I know?

The more incredible thing is that people are admitting to liking the Bonfire Rauchbier savory sweet and overly smokey bacon beer. Horrible. Must be something in the water over on Facebook. As for better than Irish Red? Well, Boston Beer should find some event to promote and use Irish Red in the Boston Tea Party reenactment. But if they ever cut out Boston Lager from any mixed 12 pack, they’d be incredibly stupid.

And since it seems like I have some Boston Beer opinions today, they can feel free to hire me any time as a consultant. Love. Rob

  3. I too find it hard to believe. I voted and tried both. The Maple Pecan was way better.

  4. I work for a wholesaler in Colorado and Boston Beer said that Noble Pils should be available in Late Jan. Don’t hold me to that but that is what they said.

  5. When does Sam Adams’ Hallertau Imperial Pils return?

Glad to hear Noble Pils will be available year-round; I really enjoy it.
