Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey says no to out-of-state craft brewers

Stranahans Colorado Whiskey

Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey has asked the Colorado brewers who buy its sought-after barrels for the purposes of aging certain beers to stop using its name on their labels, and the distillery, which was bought out by New Jersey’s Proximo Spirits late last year, will no longer sell any of its barrels to out-of-state beer makers.

  1. What huge d-bags.

Hopefully more brewers turn to rum barrels. Everyone and their homebrewing granny is aging every damn beer over 8% in whiskey barrels.

  2. I wonder when this decision was made? I toured several breweries (mostly small) for GABF this year and many of them had Stranahan’s barrels. The only weird thing was that about half of the barrels had the Stranahan name sanded off the barrel. If they can only use the barrel once to distill their whiskey, what the he’ll else are they going to do with them? I am personally a fan of barrel aged brews and like the thought of small distilleries and breweries sharing resources to create great products.

  3. The Cigar City Imp Milk Porter aged on Stranahan’s barrels was incredible.

  4. “the company has another plan for its barrels, which it will reveal soon” Probably doing their own beer thing with them.

  5. Not doing their own thing.. Breckenridge brewery will have exclusive use of them after Stranahans whiskey comes out of them. So is the word on the street here in Denver..
