(Chicago, IL) – Here is the info yielded from a few Twitter searches:
1. Before 9:30am, 200 people had lined up at Goose Island for a 10am release. That number obviously grew over the last hour (by the time this post went live).
2. Icarus and Bourbon County variation bottles are already sold out. There was only enough for the first 30 people or so in line. In order to get those bottles, you would have had to wait in line for around three hours.
3. According to the 14th person in line, six people cut in front of him over the course of nearly three hours. This means that whoever was originally 25th in line probably missed out on stuff like Icarus due to line cutting. It’s only a matter of time until someone busts out the pepper spray or gets punched out at one of these things if it hasn’t happened already.
4. The ‘per person’ bottle limit has been dropped to 2 for King Henry, showing that Goose Island was surprised by the number of people attending the release.
5. Should King Henry bottles sell out, there will be some available on shelves as early as next week and at a lower price point (presumably) than the $25 early bird price it is being sold at today.
“busts out the pepper spray” that seems a bit extreme, is this site turning in to Fox News for beer?
It was obviously a stretch, but pretty soon something is going to happen like this at a beer event and someone is going to be pushed over the edge. Pepper spray might be out of the question, but I could easily see fights breaking out over line cutting.
Nah, Fox News actually makes people less informed than those that don’t watch it at all. http://www.boiseweekly.com/Cobweb/archives/2011/11/25/study-finds-fox-news-actually-makes-people-less-informed
I deliver solid information here with the occasional hyperbole for entertainment.
According to John Hall who was at the event, this release of King Henry should be considered to be about the same size as a BCBS Rare release. He didn’t expect this to be out on shelves any time soon. They also ran out of the $5 tasters at the bar by 11am.
My friends and I have good luck with asking line cutters to go to the end of the line. So far we haven’t had to give a New York “convincing” to anyone, but it is just a matter of time before someone receives what their actions invite.
Just say no…to Budweiser! Goose Island = sell out! Support local beer!
Too bad they’ve partnered with AB….
