New Belgium Dig to replace Mighty Arrow, third seasonal change announcement this year

Even more New Belgium news from Jonathan Shikes…

And this spring, it will release Dig, which New Belgium spokesman Bryan Simpson calls “a variation on the theme of a pale ale, but with a different hop profile. Dig will replace Mighty Arrow, named for brewery co-founder Kim Jordan’s dog.

This will be the third seasonal shakeup in the last year. Somersault replaced Skinny Dip and Snow Day replaced 2 Below. Hoptober is the only one that seems to be sticking for now.

  2. This is the most disturbing news I have seen in months. Mighty Arrow is possibly my favorite beer from New Belgium and I look forward to it all year. It is a wonderful everyday pale ale and I can’t imagine that it is a poor seller for them. Sometimes I feel like brewers change just to change and this is not needed. I guess I will just have to find a clone recipe and make it at home. Do we need to start a movement: Save Might Arrow!

  3. I’m assuming that New Belgium knows what it’s doing when it comes to replacing core offerings like Mighty Arrow. I don’t think they’d do it without seeing financial benefits to the company.

  4. I agree with BeerByThePool; Mighty Arrow is by far my favorite annual offering from NB. I’ve gotten kegs of it before. Sad to see it go.

  5. The good news is that New Belgium stated that these beers might come back after a long hiatus. So we may just see these all return every 2 to 4 years. That would be great.

  6. Count me in for “Save Mighty Arrow” campaign. That beer finally got me appreciating New Belgium, and I now I buy Ranger 12-packs on a regular basis.

  7. I love Skinny Dip, Mighty Arrow, and 2 Below – I’m bummed that they are being “replaced” just as New Belgium is finally in the mid-Atlantic.

Somersault was just ok (for me). I am loving Snow Day though. Hopefully Dig will be great. I’m guessing based on the name, that they will go for “earthier” hops rather than the usual US pale ale citrus hops.

  8. This bums me out. Mighty Arrow was my favorite beer from NB and in my personal top 10. I enjoy Dig, but really miss Mighty Arrow. Please bring back or offer both!!!
