Boston Beer Co. spearheading work on new can technology
No specifics though Koch says he wants a thicker lining in cans before putting Samuel Adams in them.
Even Boston Beer, maker of Samuel Adams, is working with several manufacturers to develop cans for its products, according to its president, Jim Koch, who used to be firmly in the anti-can camp. “There will come a day,” he says, “when I will feel comfortable putting Sam Adams in a can.”

Breweries: The Boston Beer Company
I call shenanigans. There is nothing wrong with the current can technology, with the ONLY exception being that the Boston Beer Co doesn’t currently have a canning line. If they had already made the investment, we would be hearing how each can delivers keg quality beer protected from the elements of light and oxygen.
They’ll start using cans once their marketing team decides it won’t hurt their image. Boston Beer Co. “A marketing team that just happens to sell beer”
seriously, canned beer is gross. I don’t drink any beer (by choice) that is distributed in cans, even if the beer I’m drinking at the moment, is out of a bottle – i.e. Bud – it comes in both but due to the fact they produce in cans tells me right away it’s at best second class. Beer belongs in bottles! It also belongs in kegs for draft, not for metallic tasting cans. (Yes, sorry Yuengling, I have to include you here, if you didn’t also can your beer, I’d be more forgiving, although it is decent beer if you want a step ahead of the macro-brew garbage from SABMiller and ABInbev)
The marketing team my not drink beer.. According to a news release from the National Golf Foundation dated
March 29, 502 million rounds of golf are played per year. I would like to take SAM IN THE CAN GOLFING! do you no how many beers are drank on the course? Even more interesting why not be the 1st choice at an event. I can’t put the bottle in my golf bag it will break. Sam is missing out not being offer in a can that’s a fact!!! If I am a marketing guy, or the owner I am not missing out on those drinking opportunities! Wana increase sales put the stuff in a can. Also that’s why the can what invented so our boys in the war could have a beer & so they could transport the the stuff oversea easily. some people that a so smart sometimes over think themselfs…. “Sam in the can” it’s catchie
