Former Magic Hat Head Brewer on NAB’s impact: “more and more about making ‘units'”

When North American Breweries purchased Magic Hat last year, Newman was pushed out and the culture changed, leaving (Matt) Cohen disillusioned. “In my mind, [the brewing] became less and less about making beer and more and more about making units,” he says. “I got into beer because I feel it’s a great creative outlet. To me, it’s a perfect marriage between science and creativity.”

Cohen will release his first beers for the all-new Fiddlehead Brewing this month.

  1. Not overly shocking to hear that about NAB. Then again wasn’t Magic Hat partly owned by an investment bank for a while? That must have been fun too.
