Mississippi state rep takes another shot at lifting ABV cap on beers

"It puts our businesses at a disadvantage against businesses in Alabama, Tennessee, you name it," said Butch Bailey of Raise Your Pints. "So, this would give our businesses more opportunity to compete with out of state businesses."

At least one law maker is listening. Representative David Baria-(D) Bay St. Louis has put forth legislation that would raise the allowed alcohol content to eight percent.

  1. I guess 8% is a start. It’s still very restrictive so I guess doing babysteps is better than nothing.

  2. MS law defines alcohol in beer by weight. Sot he current cap of 5% ABW is about 6.2% by volume. The new cap of 8% will equal about 10.1% by volume. It’s not perfect, but that’s a huge number of new beers that would be legal in MS.

Raise Your Pints is an all-volunteer grassroots organization. And lobbying the legislature with professional lobbyists is hard and expensive. I’d like to take this opportunity to encourage all beer lovers, regardless of where they live, to please consider going to RaiseYourPints.com and consider joining up as a paid member. All the money we raise goes to our legislative efforts.
