Founders Dirty Bastard, Backwoods Bastard banned from Alabama

Bad news for those in Alabama that want to get their hands on Founders Dirty Bastard and Backwoods Bastard…

Someone at the ABC board thinks the word “bastard” is “objectionable” and has the power to stop the beers from making it to the shelves of retailers around the state. No matter that “Fat Bastard” wines are already sold in our state. Not surprisingly, a different standard is being applied to beer.

  1. I assume that Stone’s Arrogant Bastard and Double Bastard have been kept out as well?

    What’s in a name?

What’s in the bottle is more important. I’m in Georgia – I’ll have to get my hands on some more Founders. If there’s a petition to change this ridiculous Alabama rule, I’ll spread the word.

  2. How stupid can we be? Its an adult product. Who are they protecting? You show me one beer drinker in the state of Alabama who wants to buy beer at the sort of store that carries Founder’s products but objects to seeing that sort of language in the process.

  3. @ Rob and Sud, please don’t show your ignorance. There are backwoods and bastards in every state in the country. We in Alabama have been fighting to get the beer laws changed for several years and have made great strides. We have some more work to do , no doubt. The fact that wines with ‘Bastard’ in the title are allowed and beers with it are not shows there is a double standard in the state. I invite both of you to the Magic City Brewfest on June 1-2 in Birmingham and let us show you we are neither backwoods nor bastards. We’re craft beer loving folks the same as you.

  4. Samething in Michigan w/ Raging Bitch from FlyingDog & Bitches Brew from Dog Fish! FlyingDog sued and now we have Raging Bitch.
