Only 10% of Mikkeller beer is sold in Denmark

Mikkeller brews his beers all over the place…Denmark, Belgium, U.S., and so on so this isn’t all that surprising. From an interview:

Yeah, we do export 90 percent, which is not normal. From the beginning, we made beers with an "international" focus, meaning we did not make beer aimed at a Danish audience at all. We make beer for more experienced beer drinkers, I guess, and there are not that many of those in Denmark.

  1. quite the different business model to many craft breweries here in the states who have a ‘conquer home-turf first’ mentality.

    hey, whatever works.

  2. @wildchild: True. US breweries are lucky to have such devoted home crowd and lots of them. Denmark is 5 mill people, 97% still drinking Carlsberg. Thats really hard to change 🙂
