Blue Point Brewing plans to source hops only out of New York
Interesting considering Blue Point is a top 50 craft brewery. Didn’t know that the New York hop market had come along that far yet…
“We just signed a contract that will allow us to buy hops locally and not import it from farmers out of state. It could be the start of a whole new industry on Long Island,” said Cotter. Right now the Patchogue-based brewery buys its hops from Washington and Colorado farmers

“not import it from farmers out of state . . .”
I wouldn’t bet on it. Do they actually buy all the hops for the beers contract brewed at Genesee? Are they going to settle for fewer varieties (for contract brewed for what they make on Long Island)?
More questions to be asked and answered.
We’re psyched that NY is producing hops again and we are in the midst of discussions about sourcing some from a new local farm as their production allows. But the NY hop market still has some growing to do…pun intended. We’ll keep folks posted as we continue to explore options. Cheers!
