New Belgium, other Fort Collins brewers expanding sour programs
New Belgium started with seven 60-gallon barrels. The brewery just bought eight 110-hectoliter barrels, and it is on par to hit more than 6,000 hectoliters by the end of the year. New Belgium is purchasing foudres from France for between $3,000 and $40,000, which they then breakdown, shave, clean and reassemble here in Fort Collins.
via Crooked Stave’s Chad Yakobson on Twitter, “this will increase our barrel aging capacity by 10,000 gallons or 300 bbls. 4x our production last year.”
