NYC update with Bronx Brewery, SingleCut BeerSmiths

Bronx Brewery logo(New York City, NY) – Beer Sessions Radio featured a couple New York City-area brewers on Tuesday. A few notes…

Bronx Brewery‘s Damian Brown shared that he has been doing the hands-on (contract) brewing thing at Cottrell Brewing for a while now, a five-hour round trip that he makes once a week. Bronx Brewery is fundraising in hopes of breaking ground on a new brewery early-mid next year. Brown added that, in order to contract there, Bronx had to purchase and install a 40-barrel and an 80-barrel fermentation tank. Ownership of the tanks is transferring to Cottrell evenly over time. [ed. note: how common is this?]

Queens-based SingleCut BeerSmiths‘ Rich Buceta added a couple details to a recent press release. The 30-barrel brewhouse will consist of three 60-barrel fermentation tanks, one 30-barrel fermentation tank and two 60-barrel lagering tanks. Buceta expects equipment to arrive in one month.

Speaking of equipment, Blind Tiger’s Jen Schwertman added a note from her recent CBC trip. Green Flash Brewing CEO, Mike Hinkley, told her that he learned a long time ago that the cost to install a new piece of brewing equipment is about five times the cost of the equipment itself. Something to consider when estimating costs…
