(Petaluma, CA) – Lagunitas Brewing Founder and Owner, Tony Magee, is no stranger to sharing his thoughts on various aspects of craft beer’s future.
A few days ago, Magee re-visited the work he is doing with Alberta farmers on contracted barley production. Magee explained back in March that he has partnered up with farmers to grow barley that will be malted specifically for eventual production of Lagunitas beers.

Spooky thing bout CraftBeer & Barley is: Although we craft r only 6% of US beer, we r 17% of the malt. Could be lotsa elbows down the road.

…so what'll happen when we 100% malt brewers are making 12% of US beer? 40% of the available malt..? Interesting… There will be blood!

It's easy to plant mo barley, tho corn, wheat, and canola are already competitors, but Maltsters capacity is a slow build by comparison…
