(Phoenix, AZ) – A couple anonymous tips came in after this morning’s excerpt in which an Arizona brewery made comments about local bars not supporting local brewers. The tipsters say that the comments are unique and reflective of Old World Brewery’s own experiences and not those of other local breweries.
One sent a link over to the company’s ratings on RateBeer showing that the brewery has yet to achieve a consensus rating for a beer that reaches the 30th percentile in its style. Another sent a link to a list of 17 health inspection violations that the company received from regulators last month. The company successfully rectified the issues and received its permit two weeks later.
I like that he said he might consider a Southern California location where the beer scene is more popular… Well it might be more popular in SoCal but the average drinker is probably just as much if not more educated on beer in addition to that… so if your stuff isn’t that great from what the limited reviews suggest you’re in for a tough sale if you open a new location and even harder at a craft beer bar, if you can even convince them get your beer on the menu.
Gone are the days a nice story about your dreams will sell your beer.
Having had 4 of their beers now, and all of 4 of them being absolutely terrible, I can see the real issue here. The beer scene here is burgeoning and we have some great beer (Four Peak’s Hop Knot won Bronze at GABF in a tough category, for example), so his mediocre beer doesn’t do well. Bad beer doesn’t sell, blame it on the state, I guess.
This isn’t shocking, Old World beers are total crap. The whole point of craft beer is that the beer tastes good…
