Report: “Pennsylvania liquor regulators drunk with arrogance”
Only in Pennsylvania would an effort to privatize an archaic state-run liquor system dry up the same week public officials got caught accepting gifts from vendors and using wine as a weapon. Lording over who gets to buy Yuengling when, where, and in what quantity has been a nonstop party for political heavyweights. Underage drinkers plan their beer bashes via text messages, but officials at the Liquor Control Board are so drunk with power, they use state e-mail servers.

Sadly I’m not surprised by this.
Me thinks this poster uses the language of Libertarianism/Anarchism. YAY!!! Freedom is not bureaucrats, elected, appointed, or otherwise, ruling over our lives and property. Crooked Letter Brewing just hit a snag down here in MS where they couldn’t get board of supervisor approval to build their facility. You guys should share that story as well.
Posted the Crooked Letter blurb yesterday I think.
Kinda odd that the journalist takes more offense to them using their work email to conduct the criminal acts than with the criminal acts themselves: basically saying that if you can get away with it then good for you, but if you get caught then this why, other elected officials should take note so the party can continue, please invite journalist next time wink wink
This is a sham of an opinion. Most people outside of the political world have no idea what happens in politics and see something like this and say clearly there is injustice taking place. Get more details, have a backbone to your complaining. The liquor store system in PA provides thousands of good paying jobs that also offer benefits like health insurance and a retirement fund. Don’t bash what you know nothing about. All industries offer ball game tickets to clients, friends, and supporters. As a sales rep, my company had season tickets and we constantly took clients to these games. Too look down on someone that supports the system for offering tickets to the game or to frown upon the person accepting those tickets is simply sad. I see nothing wrong with what took place and because they sent an email through their work server they should be crucified? Let’s be serious!
Chris, if you didn’t get it before then perhaps you never will but ill take a shot at it anyway.
The diff here is that your PRIVATE business can trade or trade not with whoever they please. PUBLIC offices need to do business fairly with everyone who is eligible and not just those who take them golfing.
You can hire or not hire whoever you please to fix your plumbing, but if we had a publik inst that was the exclusive authority on plumbing and they would only come out if you gave them a bj then you’d have a problem.
First of all, almost all public contracts are bid and required by law to go to the lowest bidder, so your theory is wrong. Secondy, the liquor control board does not enter into contracts with vendors. They offer the widest selection possible and on request order any type of wine or liquor that you want. So favortism can’t even play a roll in the liquor and wine market in Pennsylvania. I’m not sure what vendors you think are taking advantage of the LCB; but you are clearly uneducated on the actual issue.
state fed or city it shouldnt happen but you can bet people in that position can inform who they want to win a bid about the cost on the other bids to be sure there buddy giving them a kick back gets the bid. shouldnt happen its illegal but if you dont think fed state and govt officials dont tell bidders there low and they need to raise there bid so there within 10 percent of the other bids to raise it high enough there buddys they really want to get the bid doesnt happen you have visit the liquer store to much- it happens wont say how i know it happens.
