“Drink Beer, Not Water!” St. Arnoldus, The Patron Saint of Belgian Beer
By urging his congregation to avoid tainted water and instead drink beer, St. Arnoldus saved untold scores of people from certain illness or death. In the middle ages, only wine and beer were safe to drink and Arnoldus endeared himself to brewers and lovers of beer by encouraging consumption of their favorite beverage above all others. Today, St. Arnoldus is recognized as one of the patron saints of beer, specifically of authentic Belgian Beer.
This July 18, raise a toast to St. Arnoldus as we celebrate Belgian Beer and Belgian Independence Week. More than 75 establishments (see comments here for the full list) are featuring excellent Belgian-style beers to honor the memory of St. Arnoldus and beer brewed right in Belgium!
Brought to you by Artisanal Imports and our authentically Belgian beers: Tripel Karmeliet, Kwak, St. Feuillien, OMER, and Cuvée des Jacobins Rouge Flemish Sour Red!
