Beer-chilling system gets £500k UK government grant

A new beer-chilling system which could save pubs almost £2,500 a year in energy and wasted drink costs is being developed with Government funding, it has been announced. The drinks cooling system is one of a number of technologies which have won Government backing from a £500,000 fund for schemes which will improve the efficiency of food production and reduce the impact on the environment.

  1. Two concerns come to mind with this type of beer cooling system:

    1) Ensuring and maintaining proper beer carbonation levels. As beer temperature increases, the amount of CO2 head pressure on kegs needs to be higher to maintain proper carbonation levels and how would the carbonation levels of the beer be affected as it is quickly cooled going through the lines.

    2) Product stability. Beer stored at higher temperatures degrades more quickly and temperature fluctuations negatively effect the predictability of that degradation.
