(Aurora, CO) – The Aurora theater shooting came as a shock last week. With the names of the victims now having been released, we have learned how one of the local breweries was impacted.
Copper Kettle Brewing reported on Saturday that it lost one of its Mug Club members, 24 year-old Alex Teves, in the shooting. On Sunday, ABC News reported that Teves died while shielding his girlfriend, Caitlin, from harm.
Per Copper Kettle’s Facebook page:
Today, we remember our friend, a wonderful, bright spirited young man, just starting his life. Alex, brew club member #28, was one of the victims who was killed in the July 20th theater shooting. We will always remember you Alex with fond thoughts. You mug will always remain here in memory of your kind spirit. Please pray for Alex’s girlfriend Amanda who was also wounded in the accident and remains in the hospital.
On Friday, the company sent out a more general statement around the theater incident:
So sorry for the victims and those affected by the #theatershooting. What is this world coming to?
Copper Kettle is among a few breweries within several miles of the theater where the shooting took place.
Dry Dock Brewing is one of them and issued this statement on Friday:
The Dry Dock family is deeply saddened by the news in our community this morning. Our thoughts and prayers go out the victims and their loved ones.
Caution: Brewing Co. is another and had this to say:
Yikes. #theatershooting was close to us, we hope everyone we know is OK from last night’s senseless tragedy. Our thoughts go out to families and friends of the victims.
Oskar Blues is located a bit further away in Colorado but also went to Facebook to express its initial thoughts on Friday:
We want to take a moment to mention that our hearts are with the victims of this mornings shooting in Aurora. It’s an awful tragedy, and we hope those who are currently in the hospital have a quick recovery. And a huge thanks to all of the first responders & everyone who moved in to take care of the people in the theater.
As of Monday afternoon, all of the names of the victims have been released.
