UPDATED: Firestone Walker has sold the Nectar Ales brand family to Total Beverage Solution. The two sides signed an agreement on Thursday night.
(Paso Robles, CA) – On Saturday, Firestone Walker Brewing Company Co-Founder, David Walker hinted that the company has sold the Nectar Ales family of brands.
“The Hummingbirds have found a new Patron,” Walker writes. “We had good times and here’s to many more. Bon Voyage and Cheers.”
The tweet came one day after BierBuzz.com sent a Twitter message of its own that the brand had been “sold to an unnamed company on the East Coast.”
Firestone Walker announced in 2003 that it would acquire the Nectar Ales line from Humboldt Brewing Company after an arrangement in which the former contract-brewed the beer. At the time, Red Nectar was the flagship and was joined by Pale Ale Nectar and IPA Nectar. A couple hangups prevented the deal from happening until two years later when Firestone Walker officially acquired Humboldt Brewing Co. itself.
The Nectar Ales line also includes Humboldt Brown Hemp Ale, a beer that can only be sold in California due to it being brewed with hemp seeds [ed. note: either the website is out of date or the company has created a version that can legally be sold outside of California]. The brand no longer features the Pale Ale but now has the popular Black Xantus Imperial Stout as a fall/winter release.
Coincidentally, both the Facebook and Twitter accounts went dormant on April 20th.
Walker did not immediately return a request for further comment.
The humbolt brown is available in Washington state.
humboldt brown is also available in ny, not sure where they got that info
Thanks, I added a clarification note as to where that info came from…
we have Humboldt brown here in NJ as well
On the BN Sunday Session Uinta talked about the use of hemp seed in beers – you have to get some crazy approval to make/sell it.
