Hill Farmstead’s Hill: Russian River may have “got through” to eBay on beer sales
ETF- What other brewers/breweries did you work with to accomplish this goal?
Shaun- I didn’t accomplish this goal. It seems that it was largely Natalie Cilurzo (Russian River) that managed to get through to eBay. Many emails were exchanged with Jean Van Roy at Cantillon – who feels similarly about the issue.
Russian River did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Some beer listings are currently up on eBay and the company still hasn’t issued a statement as to whether it has changed any internal policies with respect to alcohol. BeerPulse is still working to get clarity.

Breweries: Hill Farmstead Brewery, Russian River Brewing
That’s stupid. RR has to be the most pompous people in the history of man. eBay allows people to try beers that normally could not due to distribution. Not to mention RR won’t distribute to Nevada because “we don’t appreciate craft beer” gfy. Thank god I have established trading partners. It’s a joke.
I hope that russian river, hill farmsteads hill, and Jean find out they actually needed to sell to resellers to actually have a beer sell out so quickly. May they choke on the excess.
I applaud the breweries for taking a stand on this, and imagine that most if not all are in favor of killing the secondary ebay market. The breweries that aren’t as vocal about it are likely staying out for PR purposes. I will continue to support RR by buying and drinking their fantastic beer, and any excess will hopefully find its way to my fridge 😉
Good riddance to anyone who was purchasing their beer, just to flip it around on the ebay market. Craft beer doesn’t need (or want) that kind of support.
@beer auctions suck. I’m going to make it my mission to buy RR beer and resale it just to piss people like you off. BAZINGA!
furthermore; people are yelling about the legalities of selling beer in the secondary market. Show me one person that doesn’t break a law on a daily basis and I’ll show you a liar! If you’re going to call someone out for breaking a law, I would suggest looking in the mirrior first and stop calling the kettle black.
@crass2112 – that’s great. You must have a pretty lousy paying job to be spending your time trying to make a few dollars on reselling beer. If that’s what you need to do to make ends meet, then by all means keep it up. I do hope that ebay’s policy change will curb you misguided entrepreneurial spirit and will hopefully lead you to something a bit more productive in the future. I’m going to enjoy a beer – you should too (instead of trying to sell it)!! cheers
