Report: rising hops prices could increase cost of beer (video)
Owners of Twelve String say the people’s love for beer has actually made opening a new shop difficult. There just aren’t enough specialty hops available right now to keep up with the increase.
New crops are being planted, but it takes about two years to produce quality hops. Owner of Twelve String Terry Hackler says Amarillo and Simcoe are the two hops wanted most right now by craft brewers.
Recall yesterday’s post mentioning that Founders can’t produce enough All Day IPA due to the hop shortage, a beer using both of those hops.
