Sixpoint Brewery update: Mad Scientists and Spice of Life series

Sixpoint Spice of Life schedule 2012

(Brooklyn, NY) – Sixpoint Brewery sent out a newsletter today with an update on the Mad Scientists Series and the Spice of Life Series. More info below…

First up on the list is our just-released Mad Scientists Series #10. The tenth beer in this bi-monthly series is spiced with not only hops, but a distinct herb that can be foraged in the wild: tips from the spruce tree. We’ve fashioned our own spruce tip pale ale, that incorporates wild-foraged spruce tips from trees in Maine by one of our brewers. These bright, lemony, and tropical-tasting needles are bright green and much softer than the rest of the evergreen just at this time of year. They’ve been known to cure scurvy and to accentuate flavors as an herb, and here we’re adding them to the boil of a pale ale along with Simcoe hops. Mad Scientists #10: Spruce Tip Ale is available on draught now.

We’ve also just released a whole new rotation of monthly hops for the Spice of Life series. The single-hop varietal series with a different hop each month was introduced last July, with Chinook. The initial twelve-month rotation concluded with Crystal this June. Now you can try the new calendar of hops at many bars throughout all cities where Sixpoint is sold on draught. The first hop in the series will be Amarillo, a fresh, floral-tasting hop, followed by Riwaka in August, and including Pacifica and Glacier along the way. Some of these hops are very rare and new to us as well and carry very distinct characteristics that we’re looking forward to getting better acquainted with each year. We’ve released the calendar of what to expect from each month in this series below.
