Samuel Adams Hazel Brown Ale debuts in Fall Harvest Collection pack

Hazel Brown body label

(Boston, MA) – The Boston Beer Company made mention of a new fall beer in last week’s Samuel Adams newsletter. More below…

In honor of the fall hazelnut harvest, we wanted to brew a flavorful nut brown ale that encompassed everything about the fall season. Samuel Adams® Hazel Brown’s roasty and nutty aroma puts you in the mood for fall just as the leaves start to change. The flavor of hazelnut combines with a slightly sweet caramel and toffee malt character that’s a perfect pairing with the savory flavor of grilled pork. Medium in body, this brown ale finishes smooth with subtle underlying hop spiciness.

While nut brown ales may not have a particularly long or exotic history in comparison to some other beer styles, brown ales have been around in England since the late 17th century. As brewers began using pale malts as the base of their beer (moving away from the more expensive brown malts) in the early 19th century, this style became harder to find. But they weren’t gone long, their resurgence began by the early 1900s and by the 1920s, brown ales were reborn as a popular style. Fast forward a bit to our Hazel Brown, we created Northern English Brown Ale which is slightly more robust in flavor and strength than mild Southern English Brown Ales.

To try our Hazel Brown, look for it in our Harvest Collection pack near you.
