UPDATE: Pricing will be same per case for wholesalers and approximately 1/3 less per 4-pack (proportional pricing to 6-packs) according to Stone’s Greg Koch.
(Escondido, CA) – The Not So Professional Beer Blog reported late last week that Stone Brewing will soon phase out six-packs for both Stone Ruination IPA and OAKED Arrogant Bastard Ale, following an industry trend of shifting specialty releases away from six-packs.
While, such moves typically bring pack pricing more in-line with six-packs of core beers, on a per-bottle basis, the same premium will generally exist as it did before. Six-packs that are in the $15-$20 range are a prime candidate for a switch. Four-packs fill a gap in the market between six-packs and 22 oz. bottles, usually offering a better value relative to the latter package.
BeerPulse first reported in late June that Stone would be adding four-packs of Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale as well.
Georgia-based Savannah Distributing reported that these four-packs (12 oz. bottles) could arrive as early as later this month.
This would be great if it actually did help on the price. But when Sierra Nevada did it with Bigfoot. The price in my area for a 4 pack was the same as it was for last years 6 pack. Not saying that’s on SN. But it happened and I don’t like it. We will see.
Bigfoot? That change is not happening until next year.
“approximately 1/3 less” what?
quanity in the market?
cost 1/3 less per 4-pack (proportional pricing to 6-packs) <-just fixed, thanks
