(Los Angeles, CA) – Angel City Brewery, Downtown Los Angeles’s only craft brewery, has just sent its first official creations out into the world – Eureka! Wit and Angeleno IPA. After months of experimenting, both in house and at bars around Downtown, Angel City has anointed these inaugural brews with their forever names. A list of bars and restaurants pouring Angel City’s beers can be found on the brewery’s website.
Eureka! Wit is a California Style white beer – a perfect blend of the Belgian-style white beers so popular in LA, but brewed for the California palate with a wonderful hop aroma and flavor — golden-hued, citrusy, light bodied, full flavored – and 100% inspired. Also introduced this week alongside Eureka! Wit is Angeleno IPA, Angel City’s second release. A West Coast IPA, Angeleno is a rich, full-bodied, hoppy counterpoint to the Eureka! Wit. Big, bold, grapefruit hop flavors and aroma best characterize this medium-bodied, copper-hued beer.
Alan Newman, craft beer veteran and director of Angel City Brewery says, “We put a few test beers out into the local market to get some feedback but when we finally hit the perfect recipe, we knew, ‘Eureka! this is it.’ So, of course, Eureka! was our first beer. Angeleno – well, that needs no introduction.”
A balance of aromatics and flavor, Eureka! Wit is nuanced with orange peel and coriander and at 4.9% ABV and 24 BU’s it’s a full flavored but sessionable beer. Angeleno IPA at 6.1 AVB and 70 BU’s is hopped with Citra, Nelson, Fuggles, Simcoe, and Nugget to make the perfect treat for hop heads. A roster of where to find Angel City’s beers can be found here.
Under the guidance of Newman, Angel City is looking to not only brew world class beers that truly appeal to the Los Angeles palate, but to become a grass roots community member embracing and supporting the many organizations that make L.A. the creative and forward thinking center that it is. With that in mind, during its first summer, Angel City has participated in dozens of charitable events and identified a roster of philanthropic partners. From Bloomfest LA to creating an Angel City Brewery Aids Walk team, Angel City believes in the symbiotic relationship between a business and its community.
“Head Brewer Dieter Foerstner also has deep roots within this community. A third generation brewer – with both a great grandfather and great uncle as Los Angeles brewers, Foerstner’s passion for, and pride in, quality craft brewing runs deep and he sees endless potential for the craft brewing industry in L.A.
“I’m thrilled to join the brewing community in this city,” said Foerstner. “There is a great collection of people who are passionate about making and drinking excellent beer in LA, and there is so much more we can do. Los Angeles is becoming a real beer town at last, and we are proud to carry the name “Angel City” – because we hope to become Los Angeles’ beer.”
With the first official beers finally being tapped all over Downtown, Angel City’s next big goal is getting the brewery open to the public. The Angel City brewery building is currently under renovation and expects to open late 2012 with a bar featuring al least 8 taps – including a variety of ongoing experimental creations. Plans include brewery tours and tastings and the sale of growlers on site along with Angel City merchandise.
