Blue Point Brewing owner on 12 oz. bottle format: “probably doomed”

Blue Point Toxic Sludge Black IPA(Patchogue, NY) – Blue Point Brewing owner, Mark Burford, appeared on Heritage Radio Network’s Beer Session Radio podcast on Tuesday to chat about all things Blue Point. He was joined by another guest, Brian Ewing of Twelve Percent Imports, best known for carrying Stillwater Ales and Evil Twin Brewing.

Among the few highlights from the episode was Burford’s stance on cans vs. bottles: “I really think that the 12 oz. bottle is probably a doomed product other than certain specialties.” Blue Point packages beer in both vessels but has seen more success with cans as of late since introducing them earlier in 2012.

Blue Point’s newest release will come in early November when Toxic Sludge Black IPA will be released in 16 oz. cans for the first time. Around the same time, on Election Day, the company will release Entitlement Porter in 22 oz. bottles (though that seems kind of like releasing a Christmas Ale on Christmas, right?).

Blue Point ranked in the top 40 craft brewers last year with 51,000 barrels produced, according to the Brewers Association.

  1. I wish Bluepoint would concentrate on making better beer. All their offerings are just average.
