(Roseland, VA) – Devils Backbone Brewing [a BeerPulse supporter] updated us on the company’s expansion progress last week.
Devils Backbone has experienced huge growth this year. The company produced 800 barrels in 2011 out of its brewpub and added a 15,000 square-foot production facility called The Outpost in March of this year. In addition to producing 900 barrels out of the brewpub, Devils Backbone will produce nearly 10,000 barrels out of the Outpost in 2012 and has big plans for it going into 2013.
Why the sudden growth? Pent up demand.
According to the brewery blog, “In less than four years DB has won 17 GABF medals, 5 World Beer Cup Medals, the 2010 World Beer Cup Champion Small Brewpub & Brewmaster Award and the 2012 Great American Beer Festival Champion Small Brewpub & Brewmaster Award.”
With that in mind, Devils Backbone COO, Hayes Humphreys, updated BeerPulse on the expansion. Here’s the scoop:
—
Devils Backbone set six new 120-BBL fermenters today, and we are receiving shipment of our new 120 BBL Brite on Monday. We expect these tanks to be fully operational before Thanksgiving and full of world class beer by December. The new tanks take our theoretical capacity to something around 22,000 BBLs and we anticipate filling that entire capacity next year and then some.
We’ve placed pre-orders on several more 120’s with an ETA of July 2013. We’re on pace to produce 10,000 BBLs this year, our first in full scale production outside of the brewpub, so we’re looking to do a little better than double next year.
With our expanded capacity, we anticipate being able to complete our footprint in VA by expanding to Virginia Beach and Norfolk. We will also be able to offer several new products, including:
· A year round dark offering (Schwartzbier in the warmer months and Baltic Porter in the cooler ones)
· Increased availability of our Trailblazers Limited Release Series, including the return of The Congo, our belgian inspired pale ale (FKA Belgian Congo Pale Ale), and the addition of two new styles
· A line of small batch brewers reserve offerings, starting in March, with Sixteen Point IPA
