Payette Branding Iron Robust Porter, Organic Homebrew Challenge winner, makes debut

payette brewing logo(Boise, ID) – Payette Brewing will be releasing the Branding Iron Robust Porter on draft in the Boise area on Nov 9, 2012. The beer recipe belongs to Steve Dockter and was brewed at Payette Brewing as part of the grand prize for the Organic Homebrew Competition held in June.

The Organic Homebrew Challenge was held June 30th at the Visual Arts Collective as part of the All Idaho Hausbrau Battle. Dockter’s recipe scored highest among 18 entries. All entries were judged according the Beer Judge Certification standards for the style of Robust Porter. He credits a couple beers for his recipe inspiration, Iron Hill Pig Iron Porter and Rogue Mocha Porter.

“I was shooting for a porter with the hop profile of the Pig Iron, with a little more chocolate-coffee and ester flavors of the Rogue.”

Entries into the Organic Competition must have been submitted with a recipe and the receipts to prove at least 95% of the grains used were organic. Hops were the only exception to the organic standard although it was highly encouraged to use organic hops if available.

Mike Francis, founder of Payette Brewing, agreed to brew the winning recipe at Payette because he saw it as a great way to support the homebrew community in the area.

“I started as a home brewer and know how exciting it was to brew my first beer commercially so I thought it would be great to give someone else that opportunity.”
