A close-up look at liquor law changes in Utah

beer-picA few new posts emerged this past week on Utah liquor laws. The state’s laws may be some of the most unique in all of the U.S.. For example, in bars, the so-called “zion curtain” “requires some restaurants to mix and pour cocktails and beer behind a wall and out of the view of restaurant patrons.” Just a few years ago, bartenders had to walk around the bar in order to serve someone and could not simply (legally) reach across the bar with drinks.

– The Brewers Association provided a Guild update on what is new in the Beehive State and what craft brewers think of the unique laws there. This past week’s updates below…

– Stoel Rivers, LLP, provided some insight last week on new bills introduced that would bring some small reform.

– On Monday, one of the bills mentioned, SB 261, passed in the Senate and now heads to the House. Note that the Lexology article is helpful as this one primarily goes into the aspects around enforcement of underage drinking.
