Lightning Brewery update: 6-packs, wood-aged beers, seasonals

lightning brewery logo(Poway, CA) – Lightning Brewery announced some news in Thursday’s email. More below…

Spring is here. Welcome to Spring and a re-invigorated Lightning Brewery. Thank goodness winter is almost a memory and we are looking at doing more of everything this year. First of all we are nearing the end of our process of bringing out 6-packs to the public. Once that’s done, we’ll get the designs approved by the appropriate public agencies, print and then start filling. We are working on our two best sellers: Thunderweizen Ale and Elemental Pilsner; beers that will sell great and look great in a six-pack.

Wood-aged Lightning beers. We are proud to say that we have a schedule for releasing our very well received wood-aged beers throughout the months of April, May, and June. Currently we are releasing an experimental batch of our Electrostatic Ale that has been aged over 6 months in French oak Chardonnay barrels. We feel these notes properly highlight the vinous characteristics of our award-winning farmhouse ale or more specifically Bier de Garde. Next up will be our big, black, smoothed-out Black Lightning Porter in May and then Old Tempestuous Ale in June.

Seasonal beers. Look for our 2013 Ionizer Lager to be available in mid-April followed by our Sauerstrom Ale, our lightly soured Berliner Weisse in mid-May. Finally, we have undertaken crafting some one-off beers at the brewery that are for lack of a better term, Jim’s weird beer. He always did that sort of thing as a home brewer. He is just taking it to the next level by working on some small scale brewing, as the higher volume beers are in good hands with our outstanding brewing staff. First one up will be high in gravity and fermented only in wood barrels.
