(San Antonio, TX) – On the morning of the same day that Modern Times Beer concluded its record-breaking brewery Kickstarter round, Free Tail Brewing founder, Scott Metzger, coincidentally shared his satirical campaign mocking Kickstarter.
Metzger tweeted on Tuesday that he has been “so critical” of Kickstarter in the past. In February, he tweeted, “How does Kickstarter both solve Positive Externality problems while creating Negative Externalities? You’ll have to enroll in my class!”
To playfully illustrate his criticism, Metzger started a campaign to fund a “Freetail Delivery Lamborghini.” Kickstarter rejected it but not before Metzger took some screenshots preserving the copy. He writes (in part):
“Our delivery Lambo will be capable of making deliveries at upwards of 200 mph, which ensures more than DOUBLE THE FRESHNESS over leading competitors. We care about beer at Freetail, and caring about beer means caring about Freshness, and caring about Freshness means delivering beer in a Lambo.”
And (emphasis is Metzger’s)…
“Another question you might be asking yourself: ‘Freetail is a for-profit business, couldn’t you just… like… you know… use your own money for this Delivery Lambo?‘ Another easy one. Yes, we could. But what fun would that be? It is time to cast aside the archaic economic philosophies of our forefathers that puts corporate funds at risk for ventures that only might possibly generate a positive return.”
Kickstarter tracks stats on all projects though the page doesn’t provide a total amount successfully raised. It does indicate that companies and individuals have attempted to fund nearly $600 million in projects to date.
This wouldn’t be Metzger’s first spin at business satire. In early 2012, Metzger penned a snarky response to a cease & desist letter Freetail received from another brewery.
hahaha that is awesome. I like Kickstarter but well done!
