New Belgium will explore solar power, clean energy for Asheville brewery
As a result of this pragmatic policy, North Carolina is home to more than 1,100 clean-energy companies. In fact, North Carolina is now fifth in the nation for solar energy and on track to move into fourth place this year. We will explore partnering with some of those solar and clean-energy companies as we finish construction of our brewery here, to fulfill our own sustainability goals and to support the clean-energy industry.

Breweries: New Belgium Asheville
Sierra Nevada announced in January, 2012 that they would be building their second Brewery in the Asheville Area, and they are almost done with construction. New Belgium announced in April, 2012 that they too would be building their second brewery in Asheville, and they haven’t even started grading the property.
While New Belgium’s Fort Collins brewery is located on the outskirts of town with a very small, low-income neighborhood nearby, the site in Asheville is nestled in the middle of dense residential neighborhoods. There are major transportation limitations of the Asheville site, and New Belgium is forced with the choice of increasing traffic by 18 wheelers down a quaint “Mainstreet” road by an estimated 700% (though New Belgium and the Asheville Chsmber of Commerce will not provide the count of current 18 wheeler traffic), or use roads that pass by 50 acres of park space.
An entire neighborhood association was born from the concerns over the impact of New Belgium’s mass production operations amidst the vibrant neighborhoods.
There’s a story down here. You guys should come check out the beer scene in Asheville…
Not sure that I have the resources to cover it, Jonathan. If a local (presumably backed by newspaper revenue) can cover it, I will take a look at the article.
Oh, they just announced an 8 month delay in the construction scedule. See the Asheville Citizen Times article today.
Yeah I have it on the front page today, too. Probably published before the Times piece. Cheers.
