Update per Stone: this beer will now be released in late July.

(Escondido, CA) – Stone Brewing Co.’s collaboration with Rip Current Brewing and a pair of homebrew contest winners, R and R Coconut IPA, recently received label approval.

The official name of the beer is “Robert Masterson & Ryan Reschan/Rip Current/Stone R&R Coconut IPA.”

Masterson and Reschan won Stone’s AHA-sanctioned Spring 2013 Homebrew Competition with their recipe which will be dialed up to the brewery’s commercial system. They selected local SoCal brewer, Rip Current, as the third prong of the collaboration. Past collaboration beers have featured three different parties and with this annual release, in particular, the winning homebrewer picks the third participant.

Past winning beers include: Ken Schmidt / Maui / Stone Kona Coffee Macadamia Coconut Porter, Ballast Point / Kelsey McNair / Stone San Diego County Session Ale and Ken Schmidt / Iron Fist / Stone Mint Chocolate Imperial Stout. Stone deviated by holding a second homebrew competition in 2012 with Two Brothers resulting in Aleman / Two Brothers / Stone DayMan Coffee IPA which was released this past March.

The Coconut IPA was brewed on May 24th and will debut in August, according to a Stone tweet.

Between this beer, the brewery’s 17th Anniversary IPA and the w00tstout collaboration, that is three releases that will take place between mid-July and the end of August.
