Moonlight Meadery working on a “Pliny for the Elder for mead”

Moonlight Meadery logo(Londonderry, NH) – Moonlight Meadery founder, Michael Fairbrother, appeared on The Brewing Network’s Sunday Session this past week.

Fairbrother reveals that he is trying to make a “Pliny for the Elder for mead.” While he doesn’t expand on the project, we can surmise that he plans to release a hoppy mead at some point.

Another meadmaker, B. Nektar Meadery, has used hops heavily in mead, specifically Evil Genius IPA-style Mead, but recently discontinued it due to trouble sourcing hop extract.

While we are not sure we will see hops used in red or white wine anytime soon, some producers including Anchor Brewing and New Holland Brewing have released hoppy spirits and there is also now hop-infused cider available on the market.

Moonlight mead is now available in 24 states with Iowa being the most recent entry. Following the broadcast, Fairbrother says he was on his way to Tampa, Florida, to work that market. The mead will make its way to Colorado by the end of September.

Moonlight mead is available in many of those states through a distribution agreement signed with St. Killian Importing last summer.
