New Crustacean: Rogue to release what *may* be its second ‘beard’ beer in bottles

Rogue New Crustacean Barleywineish Imperial IPA Sorta

(Newport, OR) – Rogue Ales recently received label approval for New Crustacean Barleywineish Imperial IPA Sorta.

Rogue first mentioned the beer in a press release last year regarding the use of Brewmaster, John Maier’s, beard yeast in making beer.

The beard yeast is currently being used in test brews to determine the perfect style and yeast combination. The beard beer, New Crustacean, will be released in early 2013.

Rogue ended up releasing that beer earlier this year but simply called it Beard Beer.

We have reached out to the brewery to confirm whether there is still a connection here with the beard yeast.

The beer debuted on draft a while back as a test beer, apparently under the working title, “Chatoe New Crusty.” The label shown above is for 750ml bottles.

On an unrelated note, in case you missed it, Rogue American Amber Ale is on its way to cans.

  1. Says Pacman yeast on the label. Seems like they would have to specify that it was the beard yeast to get TTB approval.
