(Boston, MA) – The Boston Beer Company received label approval this week for the company’s take on a West Coast-style IPA, Samuel Adams Rebel IPA. Labels are in for 12 oz. cans, 16 oz. cans and 12 oz. bottles.
The company began testing the beer on draft back in June and, unlike the slow methodical approach employed by the brands under its subsidiary, Alchemy and Science, this beer has hit markets far and wide. Untappd shows check-ins in California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Texas and Maine among others.
Where many IPAs are trending downward toward “session,” this beer trends up to 6.5% ABV, closer to the popular Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA (7.2% ABV).
The neck label reads, “Rebel IPA is brewed with five varieties of West Coast hops: Cascade, Simcoe, Centennial, Chinook and Amarillo. It’s everything we love about West Coast Style IPA: big citrus and grapefruit flavors with subtle pine notes for a flavorful, refreshing brew.”
In other news, Samuel Adams Escape Route Kölsch recently received label approval as a “limited release.”
Per the neck label, “Escaping from winter’s darkness, this hazy golden, unfiltered Kölsch style creates a fresh start. Our take on the classic hybrid style grom Cologne, Germany, combines the subtle fruit notes of an ale with the smooth crispness of a lager for a bright, refreshing brew to help escape those lingering cold days.”
If you take away the hops it looks like they ripped off Brew Dog’s 5AM Saint label.

Yep, totally ripped off the brewdog branding on that one! I still bought a 12-er, shame in me!
